Neuroscience Ireland Conference 2025 — Queen's University Belfast

"Connectivity for Brain Health"

In August 2025, Liam Gildea was invited to speak at the Neuroscience Ireland Conference 2025 at Queen's University Belfast — Ireland's premier neuroscience event, hosted in partnership with the International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO) and the Health Research Board (HRB).

Liam was the only Lived Experience Speaker at the conference, presenting alongside world-leading academics and researchers from the University of Oxford, University of Edinburgh, Trinity College Dublin, Utrecht University, University of Rochester, and Queen's University Belfast.

His talk, "My Bipolar Life Behind the Science", explored 25 years of living with Bipolar II Disorder through the lens of neuroscience — bridging the gap between clinical research and the human reality of mental illness.

Liam's invitation to speak at this level reflects a growing recognition within the scientific community that lived experience is not separate from the science — it is essential to it.
